ENGINEERING CAPACITY BUILDING FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The report commissioned by the Royal Academy of Engineering reveals that engineering is a key driver of economic development on a global scale. The study indicates that countries with stronger engineering capacities experience greater economic growth and higher quality of life for their citizens. As such, there is an important link between a country's engineering capacity and its economic development. To remain competitive, countries must strengthen their engineering value chains, and emerging issues in the global engineering arena, such as new models of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), trade-in-services, and technology changes, require continuous adaptation..

To achieve sustainable economic development, the report emphasizes the need to strengthen the engineering skills pipeline and build engineering capacity in key sectors of the national and county governments.

In conclusion Countries must invest in building engineering capacity and creating a skilled workforce that can meet the challenges of emerging issues in the global engineering arena. By strengthening the engineering skills pipeline and building engineering capacity in key sectors of government, Kenya can eliminate building and infrastructure collapses and promote sustainable economic development.
